NTDA Awards Recognise Continental Leaders’ Contributions to the Tyre Industry

The National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) has recognised two UK-based Continental figureheads. Both received prestigious awards for their leadership, technical expertise and longstanding contributions to the tyre industry.

Tracey Mortimer, Managing Director for Continental in the UK and Ireland, received the NTDA Chairman’s Award, recognising her outstanding commitment, leadership and influence across the sector.

Meanwhile, Steve Howat, who is to retire in December after almost 40 years in the industry and almost 30 years at Continental, was awarded Honorary Life Membership in recognition of nearly four decades of technical expertise and exceptional dedication to developing skills training and professional standards.

The awards recognise two very different but equally important contributions to the industry: leadership in driving business transformation and technical expertise in raising professional standards across the tyre sector.

Tracey Mortimer Recognised for Leadership at Continental UK and Ireland

Throughout her 23-year career with Continental, Mortimer has brought extensive commercial, operational and international business experience to the tyre industry. Leveraging expertise gained across advanced manufacturing, technology and data-driven sectors, she has played a key role in helping the business evolve, embrace change and respond to a rapidly shifting industry landscape.

Mortimer builds strong relationships across the industry, prioritises teamwork and supports the development of others. Her leadership style and professionalism have earned the respect of colleagues and industry partners alike.

Steve Howat Honoured for Tyre Technical Expertise and Industry Training

Howat’s Honorary Life Membership recognises a similarly significant contribution, owing to his technical knowledge, education and success in raising standards across the tyre sector.

Howat began his career in the tyre industry in 1987 with Uniroyal before joining Continental in 1990 as Technical Services Manager. He returned to Continental in 2012 as General Manager for Technical Services, where he developed high-value technical support for customers across the UK and Ireland and helped to establish the renowned ContiAcademy, strengthening skills and expertise throughout the tyre industry.

A respected technical leader, Howat has played a significant role in shaping industry standards and best practice. He has worked closely with organisations including the DVSA and BTMA, where he chaired the Technical Committee, and is a trusted industry spokesperson.
