The latest data on commercial vehicle registrations in Sweden, as reported by Mobility Sweden, highlights both challenges and positive trends across different segments of the automotive industry. 

Final Set of Registrations Published for 2023

In December 2023, 488 units of heavy trucks over 16 tonnes were registered, indicating a significant decrease of 21% compared to December 2022 when 618 units were registered. However, for the entirety of 2023, the heavy truck segment experienced a notable increase of 20.5%.

The segment of light trucks under 3.5 tonnes showed a strong performance in December 2023, with 4,897 units registered, marking a substantial increase of 20.9% compared to December 2022. Throughout 2023, the light truck segment demonstrated robust growth, recording a 26.6% increase.

Electric trucks continued to gain momentum, with 1,136 units registered in December 2023, representing a modest increase of 2.9% compared to December 2022. However, the overall performance for 2023 was impressive, with the light electric truck segment soaring by 72.8%.

In December 2023, 13 units of buses were registered, showing parity with December 2022. However, the bus segment experienced a notable increase of 20.5% in total registrations compared to 2022.

While December 2023 witnessed a decline in registrations for heavy trucks over 16 tonnes, the overall trend for the year remained positive, indicating sustained growth in this segment. The robust performance of light trucks, particularly electric ones, underscores the industry’s shift towards more sustainable mobility solutions.
