    MIXED SERVICE TYRES

operate 40-tonne articulated trucks in the construction industry with Kempf and Kaiser trailers respectively. The tests compared the Goodyear Omnitrac MST II 385/65R22.5 with its predecessor, the Goodyear Omnitrac MST, and a leading premium competitor’s tyre. Lava Stolz ran each tyre for between 115,000 and 145,000 kilometres. In terms of mileage the MST II was 15% better than the MST and 26% better than the competitor. SCTR ran each tyre 132,000 to 170,000 kilometres
and the results from this operator showed the MST II 13% better on mileage than the MST and 25% better than the competitor. In both tests the MST II tyres gave even wear and no stone holding was reported.
“The Goodyear MST II tyres are perfect for our needs. Our trucks operate both over long distances and on road works sites,” said
Dieter Stolz, Managing Director of Lava Stolz. “What we need is a fuel efficient tyre that is robust and able to cope with the extremely tough conditions we frequently encounter on sites. The MSTII gives the perfect balance for both needs and it performs better than the competitors’ tyres we have used.”
The Goodyear Omnitrac MST II is available in sizes 385/65R22.5 and 445/65R22.5. The label grades for the 385/65R22.5 are ‘C’ for fuel efficiency, ‘B’ for wet grip with 2- waves and 72 dBa for exterior noise. The tyres are both regrooveable and retreadable.
The Omnitrac MST II is Goodyear’s latest trailer tyre for mixed service applications. According to the manufacturer, fleet operator tests show the tyre offers not only up to 15% better mileage than its predecessor but also up to 25% better mileage than one of the tyre’s main premium competitors.
mixed service use must not only give good all round performance on the road but also have the damage resistance to withstand the tough conditions encountered off- road and yet return high mileage and therefore low cost per kilometer. The Goodyear Omnitrac MST II delivers in all these areas. The Goodyear MST II features
Omnitrac Max Technology, which combines latest technology
materials and design elements, including damage resistant
tread compounds, robust carcass constructions and optimised tread patterns.
This results in excellent mileage in on and off road service as well as excellent
traction performance. The tyre has a wide tread, deep tread depth and multi- radii cavity for even wear and extra mileage. A zigzag centre-line groove and off-set block edge design provide improved
on/off road traction and solid centre-line grooves
increase damage resistance. Stone penetration protectors combined with double groove
angle ensure better stone drilling resistance and groove
self-cleaning. To reduce chip/chunk, the tread also has a
stiff block design without blading. The tread further features a special combination of elements for noise reduction.
To test the performance of the tyre, Goodyear worked with two fleet operators between 2009 and 2011: Lava Stolz in Germany and SCTR in Belgium. Both companies
