CV SHOW REVIEW
on Britain’s roads have

average up to 25% of tyres
running with pressure 10% or

levels.
Studies show that monitoring
tyre pressures regularly can
save thousands of litres of
fuel and can reduce
breakdowns by giving

problems. However, checking
tyre pressures manually is
time consuming, and is an
aspect of maintenance most
likely to be skimped, so active wireless tyre pressure monitoring makes sense for fleet operators looking to reduce their tyre costs efficiently.
These were the arguments emphasised by Tyrepal on their stand at the CV show, where the specialists in retro-fit tyre pressure monitoring systems was launching a new and innovative heavy duty tyre pressure monitoring system suitable for fleets or individual vehicles.
The TyrePal system continuously measures both temperature and
alerts for air loss, low pressure, high pressure and high temperature.
If preferred, an intelligent communications link can be provided between the tyre pressure monitoring system and external systems. This can be used to connect to a telematics link, custom instrumentation or for communication with a gateway base station.
The system uses sensors on each tyre that transmit pressure and temperature data to the monitor or

According to John Parker, RHC’s Business Development and Purchasing Director, the range attracted a lot of attention
throughout the show especially from visitors looking for a 'value for money' truck tyre.
“RHC prides itself on working extremely closely with all its partners to help them continually build their brands and business within the UK market”, said Parker. “To this extent this show has been
successful for us and for the Basoon range with existing customers, potential new customers and in some instances, the important end users of our customers enquiring about the brand.”
well as to promote a number of exclusive brands.
Amongst these was the Basoon range, manufactured in China by SD International, which is available in a range of ten pattern options covering all truck and trailer
TyrePal System Cuts Fuel Costs and Reduces Breakdowns
The impact of incorrect tyre inflation on commercial vehicle tyres is well documented. One third of fuel consumption in a loaded HGV is used to overcome the rolling resistance of the tyres and
this increases if the tyres are under-inflated. Just 10% under-inflation of the tyres increases rolling resistance by 10% or more, adding directly to fuel costs, tyre wear and the risk of
breakdown.
Tyre wear also increases by 10% to 15% for tyres that are 3psi under- inflated, and a massive 30% at 6psi. Surveys in the UK over recent years suggest that at least 75% of vehicles
pressure of tyres while the vehicle is moving, and continues checking while it is parked. The system can detect a slow leak that could easily go unnoticed for thousands of miles, damaging the tyre and racking up excess fuel costs. Temperature sensing means that any unusual stress on a tyre is also detected, and a warning given before it results in a blowout or tyre fire.
Advanced warning means that issues can generally be dealt with on site instead of at a roadside breakdown. Tyres are systematically checked before every journey, and continuous monitoring means that problems picked up en route can be dealt with before they cause an accident or a breakdown. A monitor in the cab gives clear and distict
data node at 433MHz. External sensors simply screw on to the tyre valve in place of the standard dust cap and an integral security shroud prevents them being removed without using a special tool. Internal sensors are also available. These fit inside the tyre behind the valve, so the tyre must be removed to fit them.
The TyrePal TC215 system is suitable for individual vehicles or for fleets including articulated vehicles with multiple trailers. For trailer fleets, a smart transceiver is fitted to each trailer to provide a simple hook-up as trailers are swapped. The new TyrePal system is available now, with prices starting at £225 + VAT for a six-wheel system and an in-cab monitor.
