The Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nut
Sailun Raises Brand Awareness at CV Show
During the CV Show various solutions to the thorny problem of wheel-nut security were on show. Prominent among these was Disc- Lock Europe, whose Safety Wheel Nut is claimed to eliminate the risk of wheel loss.
The Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nut is a free- spinning, vibration proof wheel nut, specifically designed to prevent wheel loss from commercial
vehicles such as trucks, trailers and buses with spigot mounted wheel fixings. The combination of lateral bending forces on the road-wheels due to cornering and torsional forces due to braking and acceleration, which result in settling and looseness of normal bolted assemblies, cause Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nuts to maintain their clamping force and to lock, thus keeping the wheels secure on the
axle.
Unlike a standard two-piece wheel nut, the Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nut is split into three sections, comprising a nut (1), a hexagon- flanged washer (2) and a flat faced cup washer (3). These sections are joined together to form a one-piece assembly with an O/ring.
The top two sections (1 & 2) have interlocking cams. When subjected to road shock or vibration, the most common causes of wheel nut loosening, the interlocking cams of the Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nut attempt to rise against each other. As the angle of the cam is greater than the pitch angle of the thread on the stud a wedging action takes place and the Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nut locks and will not come loose, thus maintaining the clamp load and keeping the wheel on the axle.

The CV Show at the National Exhibition Centre was no exception and alongside many of the major automotive brands, Sailun Tyres were present and prominent, occupying a proportion of the large Kirkby Tyres stand in Hall 5. Kirkby Tyres are acknowledged as one of the leading UK distributors of truck, agricultural, plant and quad tyres, and are the sole distributor of Sailun truck tyres in the UK and Ireland. All the TBR product range was on display – 16 Sailun tyres in total. Martin West, Managing Director,

ARAMID fibers are a class of heat-resistant and strong synthetic fibers. They are typically used in aerospace and military applications, for ballistic rated body armor fabric and ballistic composites.

1 Textile cord: Large-size cover ply inside the patch
2 ARAMID cord: High-strength component to reduce repair
bulges to a minimum
3 Cushion end: Steel cord ends protected by multi-layer
high strength compound to prevent cracking of the patch
at the cutting edges of the reinforcing material
4 Top layer: Prevents air and pressure leakage through
the repair unit
5 Bonding layer: homogeneously interwoven with the
patch
6 Buffer: Special resilient rubber layer between textile
plies and bonding layer
