FTA Praises Bridgestone for Carbon Emission Efforts
Bridgestone’s voluntary efforts to reduce carbon emissions have been praised by the Freight Transport Association’s (FTA) climate change policy manager Rachael Dillon, following the Department for Transport’s overall commendation of self- regulation across the sector through its Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS), a voluntary initiative to record, report and reduce carbon emissions from freight transport.
“Bridgestone is the first supplier to the logistics sector to back the LCRS”, said Dillon. “Its involvement highlights the role that tyre selection and management can play in supporting businesses’ efforts to improve vehicle fuel efficiency."
Bridgestone’s ECOPIA tyre range has been cited as a major factor in CO2 reductions, along with its tyre pressure monitoring systems, which are offered through the Truck Point fleet service network.

Westlake and Vacu-Lug Celebrate Expanding U.K. Partner Network
The Al Dobowi Group and leading Chinese tyre brand Westlake recently joined forces with its authorised U.K. distributor for TBR tyres, Vacu- Lug, to host an inaugural Westlake U.K. Partners Day.
The event was held at the Land Rover Experience Centre at Rockingham Castle (Leicestershire) and, before the opportunity to try some serious ‘off-roading’, Al Dobowi Group and Vacu-Lug management presented the Westlake TBR tyre line-up to the invited participants as well as the tyre-maker’s
strategy for the European market and Vacu-Lug’s own vision for the Westlake brand in the UK. Tim Hercock, Vacu-Lug’s Managing Director said: “Since our distribution of the Westlake brand began earlier in 2013, demand for Westlake TBR products has grown steadily. Our fleet customers have already expressed their approval of Westlake product quality and performance, and now our focus is to drive this success throughout our network of independent truck dealers.”
A group of 27 independent truck and bus tyre dealers, all members of Michelin’s MTP Programme, visited the manufacturer’s factory in Ballymena, Northern Ireland in May to see the company’s new X MultiWay 3D steer and drive tyres being manufactured.
