After a lacklustre 2022, January vehicle sales in Spain saw a surge in January, according to Spain’s ANFAC
January Sees an Upturn in Spanish Commercial Vehicle Sales
Spanish light commercial vehicles saw sales of 9357 units, of which vans saw an increase of 70.7per cent and trucks under 2.5 tons saw a 55.5 per cent increase.
Industrial vehicles were also up by 16.2 per cent, of which IVECO saw a 73 per cent increase. The most significant growth area was in the 3.5 – 6 ton sector with a 296 per cent growth.
Buses too saw a strong upwards trend with sales of 291 units being recorded; Mercedes accounted for 60 units, up by 53 per cent, and IVECO, up by 113 per cent, whilst newcomers BYD, the electric bus and coach manufacturer, saw an increase of 2300 per cent, selling 24 units in January.
One of the few sectors to see a decline was the pick-up market, where sales were down by 23.5 per cent – possibly due to manufacturers withdrawing from the sector in the current climate.
It remains to be seen whether this is an indicator of a return to a more positive economic outlook or if it is just a new year blip that may not be sustained throughout the coming year.
