RAM Tracking has positioned itself as a complete operational technology partner for commercial fleets, following a merger with job management platform Klipboard.io. The strategic move, led by parent company Klipboard (formerly Kerridge Commercial Systems), sees Klipboard.io rebrand as RAM Job Management, combining RAM Tracking’s fleet visibility and vehicle tracking expertise with Klipboard’s job management capabilities into a single solution for trade and field service businesses.
Fleet Management Solutions
The companies describe the merger as a strategic move rather than a simple business combination, designed to close a long-standing operational gap for trade businesses juggling both a mobile workforce and a vehicle fleet.
Ian Bendelow, CEO at Klipboard, said: “Until now, trade businesses had to stitch together their job management, compliance and fleet tracking from separate tools, separate vendors, and separate support teams. Bringing together RAM Tracking and Klipboard.io is about changing that reality. These two businesses are stronger together, and more importantly, they create something genuinely more valuable for the customers they serve.”
The combination is intended to strengthen RAM Tracking’s position in a fleet management market increasingly converging with wider business operations software, particularly among UK trade and field service businesses in sectors such as HVAC, electrical contracting, facilities management, construction and utilities.
Nicholas McClellan, CEO at RAM Tracking, said: “Vehicle tracking on its own is no longer enough for fleet-based businesses; fleet and operations managers now demand so much more. The businesses winning in this market are those that can connect fleet performance to job outcomes, compliance and cash flow. This combination puts RAM at the centre of that conversation.”
RAM Tracking says the merger represents an expansion of capability rather than a disruption to its existing service. Its fleet management platform, covering vehicle tracking, driver behaviour monitoring, fuel management and compliance tools, will be updated into a more complete, centralised solution, moving away from standalone tools for tracking, dash cams and compliance. New features include a “fuel finder” tool designed to help fleet managers find more cost-effective refuelling options for drivers.
Dan Ellerker-Briggs, Marketing Director at RAM Tracking, said: “Our customers have always known RAM Tracking as a specialist in fleet. What we can now offer them is a partner who understands not just where their vehicles are, but also their full operations, every mile, every journey and now every job.”
In the short term, RAM says customers can expect continued investment in its core fleet capabilities, informed by the operational context Klipboard’s field service management brings. Longer term, the two platforms are being developed towards full integration, with the aim of a single connected view of every job, engineer and vehicle across a trade business.
The company has stressed that integration will take place gradually rather than quickly, with both platforms retaining their specialist depth throughout.
Richard Blown, Chief Technology Officer at RAM Tracking, said: “We will not rush this. Our customers chose RAM Tracking and Klipboard because they are best-in-class tools (RAM for their Fleet and Klipboard for their Field Service Management). That standard doesn’t change because we are aligning them in the RAM suite of products. Integration between the standalone products will happen on a timeline that maintains that quality, and our customers will be the first to know when it’s ready.”
