Pirelli-Branded "Serie 02" Series Enters the Prometeon Range

Serie-02-Prometeon

Prometeon is ready to launch five new product lines this upcoming April in the form of the Serie 02.

Serie 02 Result of Four Years of Research, 180 Million Kilometers of Tests and Testing of 2,500 Tyres

After being tested on the roads of Italy, Germany and Turkey with the input of a working group of 100 professionals drawn from research and development, marketing, logistics and commercial departments, the Prometeon Tyre Group believe this to be the most important release for the truck and bus, agricultural and OTR tyre manufacturer.

The Serie 02 is suitable for use on long haul, regional, urban and construction site uses. Designed innovatively and with sustainability in mind, the core benefits of the Serie 02 series include reduced rolling resistance, heightened mileage, and an improvement on even wear.

"The Serie 02 represents the state of the art of Prometeon and represents best practice in the production of tyres for professional use," adds Roberto Righi, General Manager of Prometeon Tyre Group. "For the company, it means a generational change of products thanks to our new technologies, focused on the sustainability of the tyres, starting with the use of raw materials and the production process to get to their recovery. This makes our products more sustainable, in the production process as well as in use. Our products promote the reduction of CO2 emissions as well as an increase in fuel savings. The latter is very important given the current market problems."

The Serie 02 in terms of performs is already superior to its predecessor with the manufacturer reporting that rolling resistance is on average 18% less for the first five product lines, whilst mileage has been enhanced by 10%. On top of these, impressive improvements durability and even wear top the previous portfolio’s benchmark by 20% and 10% respectively.

Alexandre Bregantim, Chief Technical Officer of Prometeon Tyre Group, also added, “All products can be regrooved and are retreadable, extending the useful life of the tyre.”

The Serie 02 line includes the H02 PROFUEL, the R02 PROFUEL, the R02 PRO, the U02 URBAN-e PRO and the G02 PRO. The letters indicate an easy way to understand the appropriate application, as H is for motorway; R for regional; U for urban; and G for construction sites and mixed routes on and on and off the road. Likewise, the name indicates the qualities of the tyre with Profuel signifying reduced rolling resistance; PRO Trailer being dedicated to trailers and semi-trailers and Urban-e for city buses as well as electric and hybrid propulsion.

“Prometeon Engineered” to Appear on Series 02 Tyres

Equipped with the 3PMSF winter marking and RFID sensors, the line has several innovative elements. To name some of the design processes, the range has Pro Grip Environment Approach (PROGEA), which focuses on a range of sustainable materials to improve the wet grip and rolling resistance. There is also a Super High Tensile Belt (SHTB) comprised of steel to avoid corrosion and high flexibility for the tyres and longevity of the casing.

The Spiral Wire Technology (SWITe) utilises an increased diameter of its cable from the zero-degree spiral belt to ensure durability and resistance on the road, while the Cross Over Bead (COBe) is a reinforced bead in combination with the new geometry of metal threads for a higher load capacity. Other features include the Low Energy Dissipation Belts (LEDB), Step Shoulder Rib Profile (SSRP) and High Resistance 4 Belts (HR4B), the last of which maximises casing flexibility and structural resistance to allow for enhanced handling, durability and retreadability later on down the line.

Serie 02 Line Features Explained

The H02 PROFUEL is Pirelli’s first tyre suitable for tractors. Efficient in fuel consumption (with an ‘A’ rating), the tyre has solid road-holding performance and short braking distances on dry and wet surfaces, even in winter conditions.

The H02 PROFUEL line is designed to equip new vehicles with low CO2 and noise emissions while maintaining high safety-related performance. The line is available in steer and drive axle variants.

According to calculations made using VECTO (the simulation tool developed by the European Commission used to determine CO2 emissions and fuel consumption of heavy duty vehicles), an articulated truck equipped with 385/55 R 22.5 H02 PROFUEL Steer and 315/70 R 22.5 H02 PROFUEL Drive on the tractor, and 385/55 R 22.5 on the semi-trailer consumes 1.4 litres less per 100 kilometres than a vehicle equipped with the previous product line. For a fleet of 150 trucks travelling 130,000 kilometres a year each, this means 702 fewer tonnes of CO2 are emitted and savings in fuel cost of €465,000 per year (based on the average diesel price of € 1.7/l).

The R02 PROFUEL is equally versatile for trucks operating on long hauls on regional and urban routes.New tread patterns that provides grip and traction in all types of weather. The new geometry of the sidewalls and the increase in the thickness of the tyres, which can be measured with the ISW indicator, provide resistance to impacts and contribute to the tyre’s longer life.

The R02 PRO TRAILER is dedicated to trailers and semi-trailers and has been designed to offer maximum durability, versatility and load capacity.

The technologies, the tread pattern and the compounds make it the optimal product for both long-distance motorway and regional applications in all climate conditions, with important performance improvements compared to the previous line. With its HR4B belt pack configuration, this ensures a sturdy carcass suitable for retreading later on.

The tyre tread also has large-sized and deep grooves to assist with water drainage and wet braking performance, sturdy shoulders to promote resistance to lateral drag and tread integrity and optimal full/empty balance, improving even wear and mileage.

For the U02 URBAN-e PRO MULTIAXLE, Prometeon has looked to how, in 2025, nearly half of the city buses in service around the world will be electric. With that in mind, this tyre has a load capacity of up to 8 tonnes per axle. This allows for the use of long-range batteries on a bus without compromising on the number of passengers.

With 10% lower rolling resistance compared to the previous product, this ranks among the best in class and is rated B for energy efficiency. The U02 URBAN-e PRO Multiaxle helps to increase the battery autonomy of city buses, reduce its charging cycles for fully electric vehicles and reduce CO₂ emissions.

In line with the evolution of hybrid and electric vehicles for urban use, characterised by frequent stops and starts, the new product reduces operating costs, while increasing comfort with even wear and reduced noise generation. The tyre is suitable for all axles and comes with the 3PMSF marking and a B rating for wet grip.

Its SWITe technology and the reinforced structure allow an increased load capacity while improving its retreadability. The reinforced sidewall profile and the new tread geometry are designed to provide enhanced impact resistance and high traction throughout the full life cycle. This also accounts for the high torque transmitted by electric engines through the tyres.

Finally, the G02 PRO MULTIAXLE is suitable for steering axles and semi-trailers of vehicles used on construction sites and on mixed on and on and off-the-road-routes. The load capacity is up to 10 tonnes per axle), while offering high mileage even in severe applications. This tyre also utilizes HR4B to maximise the casing’s flexibility and structural resistance to impacts, thus delivering enhanced durability and retreadability later one.

The tread for this tyre has an optimised groove and a sturdy tread pattern, making this tyre solid on asphalted and unpaved surfaces, whilst alo reducing tread movement and enhancing regular wear without compromising in terms of traction and grip.
