Goodyear launches the new URBANMAX tyre for city buses, designed for stop-and-go traffic and kerb contact, offering enhanced durability and improved fuel efficiency.

URBANMAX Connects Longevity With Energy Efficiency

Goodyear launches the new Goodyear URBANMAX tyre, specifically designed for city buses and urban transportation environments. Engineered to handle frequent stop-and-go traffic and constant pavement contact, the Goodyear URBANMAX tyre offers enhanced durability and fuel efficiency. Compared to its predecessor, it is a suitable choice for modern urban mobility.

Goodyear URBANMAX features a full-silica tread compound that delivers up to 40% higher mileage than its predecessor while also achieving low rolling resistance (label “B”) and strong wet traction (label “B”). Both of these benefits are achieved by using a compound with a high silica content. With a four-rib tread design, additional sipes, and deep grooves with stiffeners, the tyre provides consistent handling and even wear. It also delivers reliable traction in various surface conditions.

The reinforced sidewall with wear indicators enhances durability, providing long-lasting protection against aggressive kerbstones, which is a key advantage for urban fleets. Additionally, Goodyear URBANMAX is regroovable and retreadable, helping to further extend tyre life and reduce the total cost of ownership for urban fleets thanks to the Goodyear Retreading solution.

Commitment to Sustainability on Urban Mobility

Some of the Goodyear URBANMAX tyres will also feature Goodyear’s EcoReady Technology, a designated tyre made with 40% sustainable materials. This includes the use of Rice Husk Ash Silica (RHAS), with its sustainable content attributed to the Mass Balance approach.

The Goodyear URBANMAX is now available in size 275/70R22.5. Thanks to its B-label in fuel efficiency and A-label in noise, the tyre can also help customers demonstrate their alignment with the EU Taxonomy and support advances in sustainable mobility.

Optimised for Electric, Hybrid & Diesel Vehicles

As cities transition to next-generation transportation solutions, Goodyear has engineered the EV-ready URBANMAX tyre to support diesel, hybrid, and fully electric vehicles. The tyre’s increased load-carrying capacity ensures optimised performance for heavier EV bus models compared to its predecessor, providing reliability across all drive configurations.

A Future-Ready Solution for Urban Transport

Equipped with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Goodyear URBANMAX enables seamless integration with digital fleet management systems. The RFID tags allow tracking at an individual serial number level, improving tyre flow management and operational efficiency for transit authorities and fleet operators.

“Goodyear URBANMAX tyre represents the future of urban transport, combining improved mileage, fuel efficiency, and the use of sustainable materials in its production,” said Xavier Fraipont, VP Commercial PBU EMEA.

“Compared to its predecessor, this new tyre helps to ensure that city bus fleets can operate with better reliability and lower costs while also contributing to more sustainable urban mobility.”

“With Goodyear URBANMAX, we’re not just launching a new tyre, we’re delivering a solution tailored for the evolving demands of city mobility,” said Maciej Szymański, Marketing Director Commercial EMEA.

“Key elements of this tyre are designed to support the realities of modern urban transport, from frequent stops and tight turns to the growing need for more efficient operations.”

Goodyear URBANMAX complements the existing Goodyear URBANMAX COMMUTER and Goodyear MARATHON COACH tyres, providing fleet operators with a comprehensive portfolio tailored to the full spectrum of urban and intercity mobility needs.
