Keeping airports running effectively requires ground handling equipment capable of moving planes; these have specific tyre requirements.
Continental Launches the Conti RV20 for Airport Ground Handling Vehicles
Achieving maximum logistics efficiency is part of the daily activity of airports: Aircraft are loaded and unloaded, and baggage handlers carry and collect passenger luggage to ensure the smooth running of the airport, which requires the use of numerous ground operations vehicles to ensure that everything runs smoothly. This includes winter weather conditions such as snow and sleet. Therefore, to make day-to-day life at airports easier, Continental has launched a new all-season tyre for ground-handling vehicles without fleet operators having to change tyres every season, allowing them to save time and costs.
The ContiRV20 All Season expands Continental’s industrial tyre portfolio. “This tyre is specially designed for ground operating fleets within the airport environment, such as smaller tow tractors and baggage handlers,” explains Matthias-Stephan Müller, Product Line Manager of Material Handling at Continental Commercial Specialty Tyres. All tyres in this product line are marked with the M+S symbol, which stands for “Mud and Snow”, an indicator that the tyres can be used in these weather conditions.
Maximum Contact with the Ground and Maximum Traction
When creating the ContiRV20 All-Season tyre, Continental engineers focused on the three-rib tread. “The large number of interlocking tread blocks increases traction and improves braking performance in both summer and winter conditions,” explains Müller. “Angled sipes are not only used for optimal traction performance but also provide the best possible steering ability,” he adds. Also, it is no longer necessary to change the tyres every season.
The ContiRV20 All Season is manufactured at Continental’s production facility for industrial material handling tyres in Otrokovice, Czech Republic. Continental offers the tyre in 16” and 16.5” dimensions.
