Michelin has expanded the electric vehicle fleet of its Connected Solutions Division (CXS), with the addition of 19 new electric vans as part of its commitment to transition to a fully electric operational fleet by 2030.

New Vehicles

The latest arrivals include three Ford Transit Custom and 16 Ford Transit Courier electric vans, all equipped with MICHELIN Connected Fleet telematics technology, replacing diesel-powered models used to support customers in the passenger transport sector and increasing the division’s electric fleet to 36 of its 56 operational vehicles.

According to Michelin, the expanded EV fleet is expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by approximately 79.5 tonnes compared with equivalent diesel vehicles.

Andrew French, B2B Sales Director at Michelin UK & Ireland, said: “Michelin is committed to a sustainable future, and the use of telematics data has supported this journey for several years. MICHELIN Connected Fleet technology has allowed us to improve road safety and driving style through measurement of harsh braking and acceleration, reducing accidents and helping us maximise our fleet utilisation.”

The new vans are fitted with either MICHELIN Agilis 3 summer tyres or MICHELIN Agilis CrossClimate all-season tyres and feature onboard telematics, driver coaching technology and forward- and rear-facing cameras to support safer and more efficient operation.

Michelin also held a dedicated driver training programme to familiarise staff with the new vehicles, charging procedures and driving techniques aimed at maximising battery range.

Drivers will also participate in Michelin’s EcoStar incentive programme, which rewards safe and economical driving based on metrics including driving behaviour, vehicle inspections and road safety performance.

Michelin plans to continue replacing diesel vans over the coming years as it works towards its goal of operating a 100% electric fleet by 2030.
