On Monday, 9 February, a team from Toby Clowes completed the first UK installation of the Ascenso ELR 3100 radial earth mover tyres for Welton Aggregates at the company’s active processing site on Spa Road in Lincoln.
About the New Tyre
The machine involved was a CAT 950 GC wheel loader, measuring 6.91 metres in length and having an unladen operating weight of approximately 19.26 tonnes. It is equipped with a 2.994-metre bucket, providing a capacity of around 3.4 cubic metres for handling materials such as stone, shingle, and slate.
Wheel loaders of this size are subject to significant operational stresses, particularly across the front axle. The Ascenso ELR 3100 radial tyres have been developed for use in earthmoving and loading applications where durability and performance are critical.
The tyre construction features steel radial reinforcements designed to provide structural strength. A four-block tread pattern is used to increase ground contact, supporting traction and promoting even pressure distribution to help reduce irregular wear. The tread geometry is designed to assist with the ejection of stones and debris during operation, while product testing has focused on limiting localised heat build-up.
Additional design features include a cut-resistant rubber compound, a thick undertread, and a high-strength carcass to help protect against punctures, impacts, and cuts commonly encountered in quarrying, mining, and construction environments. The wider footprint is designed to contribute to operator comfort and support fuel efficiency.
Welton Aggregates will monitor tread depth and other performance indicators over the coming months to assess wear characteristics and overall suitability of the ELR 3100 in active service conditions.
