BKT have supported the Scaglia family’s operations for over 6,500 service hours, delivering high-value technical performance and reliability.
A Century of Farming Tradition Supported by BKT Tyres
The long tradition and passion that have distinguished the Scaglia farming business for nearly a century continue their tale, intertwining with the technology and high reliability of BKT tyres.
A family of Piedmontese cattle breeders rooted in the Turin area of Italy, specifically in Rivoli, the Scaglias have undergone a thorough transformation and modernisation over the years while remaining faithful to the 100% Piedmontese quality of their livestock. The Scaglia family demonstrated their confidence by choosing operational partners such as a Merlo telescopic handler equipped with BKT CON STAR tyres in size 400/70 – 24 158 A8, which have logged approximately 6,500 service hours.
CON STAR Delivers Performance in Diverse Farm Operations
The Scaglia family has used CON STAR in a variety of operations, including forage transport, bulk material handling, and barn activities that demand numerous short-range manoeuvres, often on wet or slippery surfaces. The features most appreciated by operators were lifting stability, consistent traction even on uneven ground, and casing strength – all of which directly impact safety and operational continuity.
BKT’s Field Engineering team analysed the exceptionally high-value technical results obtained in the field by CON STAR through a detailed end-of-life tyre inspection to identify potential critical issues, particularly on the front axle. Despite some maintenance and patch-and-plug repairs, the analysis revealed optimal tyre performance at the end of its life cycle.
In terms of wear, the inspection highlighted a uniform wear pattern that, over time, helped maintain correct axle balance during loading and lifting operations. It was also noted that the presence of various abrasion and impact marks – typical of agro-industrial use, as in Scaglia’s case – did not affect the product’s performance or durability, confirming its high quality and advanced technology.
Inspection Confirms Long-Term Durability and High Performance
“It is important to note that the tyre sidewall is particularly difficult to repair, as it is a flexing area. This is a fundamental point that clearly speaks to the quality of a product, especially during the final millimetres of its use,” comments Piero Torassa, Field Engineering Director, BKT Europe.
“It is precisely these aspects that have contributed to safeguarding the overall structure of CON STAR and enhancing its ability to ensure high performance throughout its entire life cycle, resulting in the product reaching approximately 6,500 service hours in four years.”
Building on its experience with BKT and the excellent results achieved, Scaglia has once again renewed its trust in CON STAR, continuing its activities with a reliable partner that will support the company’s operations for thousands more service hours and many more years to come.
