Linglong Steps into the Tyre Management Discussion

Linglong is a fast-growing player in the European market, and as such is having to compete with established players. This means that tyre management must become the norm for the company

Linglong’s Moh Wahi discusses tyre management with Commercial Tyre Business

Today, Linglong focuses on tyre management through best practice recommendations and training for its dealers and fleet customers. Moh Wahi states; “We provide guidance on proper tyre maintenance, inflation pressure, rotation schedules, alignment, and load management, ensuring our partners can maximize performance and mileage from our products.”

Currently, Linglong does not yet operate an internal tyre management platform comparable to some Tier-1 manufacturers. Moh Wahi adds, “However, we are closely monitoring developments in this area, as the market for digital fleet management is evolving rapidly.

“From a development perspective, we believe that offering a stand-alone tyre management system may not be future proof. The market is moving toward integrated, data-driven fleet management ecosystems — combining tyres, brakes, engines, and other components under a single cost-per-kilometre platform powered by big data and AI analytics.

“In the long run, we expect cross-system integration and open data collaboration to deliver more value to fleets than isolated tyre management solutions. Linglong’s approach is therefore to stay agile, collaborate with digital innovators, and ensure our products are ready for future connected fleet ecosystems rather than tied to a single proprietary platform.”

At this stage Linglong is not yet directly involved in developing TPMS or telematics solutions, but it says that its tyres have been successfully tested with several off-the-shelf systems in China. LingLong is closely monitoring this area and remains open to partnerships that enhance digital fleet management and tyre connectivity.

Linglong’s tyres work seamlessly with existing fleet management systems, and no fleets have reported any compatibility issues,” says Moh Wahi.

At present, Linglong is monitoring existing tyre management technologies in the market but does not operate its own digital management platform, so it is not, and probably will not focus on driver behaviour recording. Linglong believes that this aspect will become less critical in the future with the growing adoption of autonomous driving systems and over-the-air vehicle updates.

Linglong’s current focus remains on developing tyres optimised for specific applications—ensuring that each product is engineered for the right load, axle, and performance requirements.

Linglong is actively working to integrate RFID chips into its tyres in preparation for the upcoming EU Digital Product Passport (DPP) regulation (R141).

This initiative will allow each tyre to have a unique digital identity, making it possible to track and record its full lifecycle—from production to end-of-life—across any fleet or vehicle.

Linglong is also in discussion with the GDSO (Global Data Service Organisation for Tyres and Automotive Components) and plan the next steps for RFID integration.

With RFID integration, tyre tracking and history management will be easily achievable within any tyre management system.

Does retreading have an impact upon the data readings from the individual tyre?

“Yes,” affirms Moh Wahi. “Retreading affects tyre data, but with RFID technology, every retread, repair, and inspection will be recorded in the tyre’s digital life history.”

With tyre chipping becoming a standard, will that enhance tyre management technology by enabling read-write RFID on tyres?

The current industry standard supports only read-only RFID chips, meaning that data cannot be written directly onto the tyre. This approach is designed to prevent data manipulation and ensure data integrity across all systems.

Linglong believes that the integration of RFID technology will democratise tyre management, enabling a wide range of new service providers, start-ups, and digital platforms to enter the market.

This will not only enhance tyre traceability but also open opportunities for broader fleet optimisation solutions that connect tyres with other vehicle systems to improve overall operational efficiency.
