Commercial Vehicle Workshops and Fleet Operators Closer to Experience Standard Passenger Car Sector Practice, Argues Continental
According to the European Union’s General Safety Regulation, heavy commercial vehicles such as trucks and their trailers or buses must be gradually equipped with TPMS sensors, as early as July 2022, for all newly homologated vehicle models, explains Continental.
So, from 2024 onwards, all new vehicles will have to utilise TPMS. With Continental TPMS Update Plus Transport for tyre pressure monitoring and maintenance of tyre pressure monitoring systems on tractor units and semitrailers.
Using the technological insight obtained from the passenger automobile sector, updates are sent to the TPMS Pro service unit which helps fleet operators and vehicle tyre workshops read and programme the sensors to create the necessary documentation.
The database is updated regularly with coverage of all common European commercial vehicle manufacturers. Filip Kevilk, Product Manager for Diagnostics and Service Devices at Continental, adds, “The transportation industry is facing many changes in the coming years. Continental is a partner with a great deal of experience in tyres and service equipment, and we aim to provide workshops with as much support as possible when they implement this transformation.”
TPMS Pro Allow Commercial Vehicle Workshops to Performance Individual Tyre Services for Commercial Vehicles Efficiency
As well as activating and testing TPMS sensors, the TPMS Update Plus Transport Database “can store and manage up to twenty-six wheels per commercial vehicle and flexibly configure axle and tyre configuration at the same time, even with twin tyres”, explains Kevilj.
The license period for TPMS Update Plus Transport is one year. It includes regular updates of the database for TPMS sensors, vehicle models, protocols and sensor teaching procedures over the year.
