Goodyear uses Motorsport

This year, Goodyear is stepping up its commitment to the pinnacle of European truck racing as title sponsor of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship (Goodyear FIA ETRC). As part of the enhanced partnership, Goodyear will help the championship achieve the net-zero emissions target set by the FIA ​​in line with the Paris Agreement.

Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship and Retreading

The championship should be completely emission-free by 2038 at the latest. This year's season, in which 15 teams and their drivers fight for the championship title in eight races, has been running since May. The next showdown will occur on the coming weekend of July 16th and 17th at the Nürburgring. New this year is the introduction of Goodyear's retread programme as part of the Goodyear FIA ETRC.

As a title partner, Goodyear is helping to accelerate the Goodyear FIA ETRC's pursuit of sustainability as the championship is the perfect test of innovation. Tyres play a crucial role in increasing efficiency and reducing emissions.

Data collected from extreme racing conditions has already helped Goodyear set standards for durable and versatile tyres with low emissions and low rolling resistance. For example, the entire FUELMAX ENDURANCE tyre series has been awarded the EU tyre label B for fuel efficiency.

Extending the life of racing tyre carcasses

Maciej Szymanski, Goodyear Marketing Director Commercial Tyre Europe, said; "We are delighted to be working with the FIA ​​and ETRC to make the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship even more sustainable this year. We are now running Goodyear's retreading programme as part of the Goodyear FIA ETRC. In the future, we will continue to extend the life of racing tyre casings in high-quality and selected road retreading programmes. This is a good example of the circular economy model from Goodyear that does not compromise on quality or performance.”

Goodyear's long-established truck tyre retreading programme is already being used by leading European transport companies, helping them reduce overall tyre costs by 10% and extend tyre life by a further 150%.

As the new title sponsor and long-term exclusive tyre supplier, Goodyear is committed to using the Goodyear FIA ETRC as a testing and innovation platform to continue paving the commercial vehicle industry's path to an efficient, circular economy and lower emissions.

Reducing your Carbon Footprint from Start to Finish

Goodyear Truck Racing tyres are made with renewable energy sources. More broadly, Goodyear has launched several company-wide initiatives globally, specifically in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region. The overarching goal is zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. All Goodyear plants in Europe and Turkey already use 100 per cent renewable energy. This milestone will be reached by all plants across EMEA by the end of 2022.

Three-quarters of fleets in last year's Goodyear Sustainable Reality Survey named reducing their carbon footprint as a principal issue. Four out of five of the surveyed large fleets stated that they would introduce sustainability indicators by the autumn of this year. It is therefore clear that environmental concerns are central to the future of the industry.

As the official tyre supplier and title sponsor of the European truck racing series, Goodyear plays a significant role in helping the FIA ​​improve its environmental performance. The new Goodyear FIA ETRC will continue to be an essential element in developing sustainable mobility solutions on the road.

Technologies developed for the track find their way into series production for the street in several ways. Stronger carcass technology offers commercial vehicles a higher level of protection and robustness. At the same time, improved compounds enable optimised rolling resistance, an all-around more efficient drive and higher mileage.
