In the latest FederUnacoma figures, tractor and agricultural machinery sales between January-March were stable, although they failed to match the record levels seen in the same period for 2021.

Minor Decline on 2021’s Record-Breaking First Quarter

5,400 tractors were sold during the first quarter, which is 9.9% down on last year’s first quarter, which was noteworthy for the 57.6% over 2020’s first quarter when Covid-19 heavily disrupted the market.

Combine harvesters dropped by 26.8% during the first three months of 2022 compared to2021’s benchmark with a total of 41 units registered. In 2021 the first quarter saw a surge on 2020 levels as sales increased to the tune of 180%.

Trailers and telescopic handlers also saw declines in quarter 1 which goes against what the market saw with 2021’s resurgent first quarter. In total, 1,944 trailers were registered representing an 8.2% year-on-year decrease in sales, which was followed by an 18.7% decrease for telescopic handlers at 309 units.

Based on various external factors taking hold, FederUnacoma believes the market will be impacted from economic issues affecting sales for the rest of the year, even though the demand for agricultural machinery remains high.
