A-Star Opts for Wheely-Safe Technology

Telford-based A-Star Transport has fitted Wheely-Safe’s wheel loss and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) to its vehicles after seeing the cost benefits, simplicity and cost-effectiveness of Wheely-Safe’s tyre solutions.

Wheely-Safe TPMS Exactly What A-Star Transport Wanted

Mike Wear, Owner of A-Star Transport, explained: “We had been looking for a suitable TPMS but a lot of the ones we found included a monthly subscription. The fact that we could pay a one-off price for the Wheely-Safe kit appealed to us.”

Wear also noted that Covid-19 and the impact on business was also a deciding factor.

“The additional benefits of the wheel loss and hub overheating alerts built into the technology were another tick in the box. It’s a complete package that allows us to always be confident in the health of our wheels and tyres.

Since installing the technology, A-Star Transport has already benefitted. “We have already had one slow puncture that was flagged up to the driver, and which we were able to act on quickly, to save ourselves from a more serious problem.”

A-Star Transport has opted for Wheely-Safe’s external TPMS sensors, which replace the valve cap and auto-pair with an in-cab solar receiver. These are fitted alongside a pair of wheel loss sensors on each wheel. The business’ in-house mechanics fitted the systems following a demonstration from a Wheely-Safe technician.

“As a public transport operator, we place the safety of our customers and other road users above everything else; this is a fantastic product to help us ensure we maintain our fleet to the highest standards,” notes Wear.

“We’ve got the systems working on all our operational vehicles, from the smaller 16-seater Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibuses, up to the 55-seater twin-axle Caetano coaches. It’s simple to install, and I even have the TPMS product running on my car, ensuring I’m always driving on tyres inflated to the optimal pressures.”
