Collard Group has cited Continental ContiLifeCycle’s sustainable retread tyres as the reason for a 50% overall reduction in blowouts across its fleet within two years.

About the Partnership

Since 1994, Collard Group has provided southern England with a comprehensive range of services and now operates from nine offices and recycling facilities across Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. Currently, its workforce manages a mixed fleet of over 150 specialist vehicles, including road sweepers, low loaders, flat beds, bulkers, trade waste lorries, ready-mixed concrete trucks, grabbers, and tippers – in addition to skip loaders and hook loaders.

The Collard Group and Continental partnership has delivered positive results for their operation across a relatively short period of time – and it certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed, as Lee Troddyn, Transport Manager at Collard Group, explains: “The trust we have in the brand’s products and services is a testament to the countless benefits that we’ve been able to reap. In under two years, I can wholeheartedly say that our retread tyres have led to a 50% reduction in blowouts across our entire fleet. Statistics like this are impossible to ignore. On top of that, it’s reassuring to know that while the tyres are delivering outstanding quality and performance, they’re also a more sustainable choice – helping us reduce our environmental impact without compromise. This, coupled with the brand’s exemplary after-sales support for on- and off-highway applications, the intuitive and easy-to-use online portal, along with next-day delivery capabilities, eliminates stress and hassle.”

The Big D

One specific product that has consistently proven its value for Collard Group is the BIG D – a retread tyre produced under the Bandvulc brand, which is a key element of the ContiLifeCycle premium hot retreading service. As well as offering ‘like new’ quality, retread tyres major on sustainability by conserving significant natural resources, using less energy and producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to new tyres, while reducing landfill waste by giving worn casings a second life.

With a significant portion of the business’s fleet operating in harsh conditions and traversing unpredictable terrains, Collard Group needed a tyre that could withstand the toughest demands.

Lee explains: “It’s safe to say that Bandvulc’s BIG D tyre has been revolutionary in meeting the unique needs of our operation. The tread design and stone ejection capabilities are perfectly suited to the conditions we navigate, whether they be quarries, construction sites, or waste management and recycling facilities. Combining this with the sheer durability of the product, it has greatly contributed to reducing vehicle downtime caused by tyre issues,” he adds.

“The technical knowledge and support we receive from Continental is second to none,” Lee continues. “Though we don’t often encounter problems that can’t be resolved easily via the online portal, their team is always on hand with advice, whether that’s on tyre selection, wear patterns or how to maximise service life. That kind of partnership is invaluable in our line of work.”

Speaking of Continental’s collaboration with Collard Group, Paul Adams, Account Manager at Continental, said: “We’re proud to support such a forward-thinking operator as Collard Group, who places as much value on reliability, sustainability, safety and long-term performance as we do. The team’s dedication to quality aligns perfectly with Continental’s strategy, and we’re delighted to see our products and services making a tangible difference to their operations.”
