BKT has designed a technical tyre range for the needs of mining operations, focusing on optimising field performance and reducing TCO for operators and fleet managers.
Open-Pit Mining Solutions
Opet-pit mining represents one of the most challenging activities for OTR equipment, with operating conditions that include highly abrasive surfaces, variable slopes, sharp debris and heavy loads. In such environments, the tyre is more than a consumable item; it is a critical structural component that directly affects safety, productivity and operating costs.
BKT EARTHMAX tyre range is designed for such applications. BKT EARTH MAX SR 46 is a radial tyre designed for rigid dump trucks for mining operations. Its all-steel casing and belts ensure high resistance to punctures, stress and other damage. The tyre features a special tread pattern with lug blocks and a circumferential groove for improved cornering performance, ensuring minimal damage to the outer tread.
BKT EARTHMAX SR 459 is an all-steel radial tyre designed with multi-ply steel belts and extra-deep tread, providing structural protection and improved abrasion resistance. The pattern is designed for rigid long-haul dump trucks that carry heavy loads over unstable rocky surfaces, providing reliable traction on slopes or landslide-prone terrain.
“In extreme operating environments such as open-pit mines, it is vital to rely on tyres providing consistent strength, traction, and stability throughout their entire life cycle. Every component affects overall efficiency—each downtime can significantly compromise productivity,” says Piero Torassa, Field Engineering Director, BKT.
“At BKT, each tyre is designed starting from real field usage conditions,” continues Piero Torassa. “We study the loads, speeds, temperatures, and types of terrain to offer tailor-made solutions that deliver reliable and long-lasting performance. Our mining range is the result of many years of research, rigorous testing, and a direct dialogue with operators.”
BKT is also investing in field data collection systems and a consulting approach aimed at supporting fleet managers in choosing the ideal configuration based on the type of ground, environmental conditions, and internal logistics of mining operations.
