This year, British Gas will equip 2,500 new vans with MICHELIN Agilis CrossClimate tyres to ensure year-round mobility for engineers.

British Gas Extends Michelin Partnership for Fleet Tyre Upgrade

British Gas has extended its pivotal relationship with Michelin, specifying the all-season Agilis CrossClimate tyre for 2,500 new vans joining its fleet this year and next as part of a major renewal.

The energy provider, which operates one of the largest light commercial vehicle fleets in the UK with 8,000 vehicles, has fitted tyres from Michelin’s CrossClimate family since 2015. It introduced the Agilis CrossClimate van-specific product in 2018, following the original CrossClimate fitment, which exceeded expectations on the fleet’s smaller car-derived vans.

Michelin All-Season Tyres Improve British Gas Fleet Safety and Efficiency

Rob Simister, Director of Fleet Operations at British Gas parent company Centrica, says, “We rely on Michelin to get our engineers to callouts in all weathers. That’s especially important in the winter months when it’s essential that we get to customers quickly if their boiler has broken down and left them without heating.”

British Gas sets its service providers’ KPIs based on fitting the French manufacturer’s all-season rubber to 95% of all tyre replacements, with MICHELIN Agilis CrossClimate or MICHELIN CrossClimate family tyres dictated by vehicle size.

Over the past 10 years, British Gas has continued to compare Michelin’s all-season tyre with others, but has not found any that give the same mix of grip, long life and flexibility.

“There’s also a productivity gain for us, as we avoid the downtime that would be associated with swapping from winter to summer tyres each year, which lowers the cost of management and helps us deliver the highest levels of service,” adds Simister.

MICHELIN Agilis CrossClimate: Safety, EV Compatibility, and Versatile Performance

The MICHELIN Agilis CrossClimate offers leading dry braking performance and an A-rated wet grip for safety. Featuring a unique V-shaped tread with large blocks and wide grooves, it is certified 3PMSF for traction on challenging surfaces such as mud, gravel, and snow.

A third of British Gas’s current fleet are BEVs – making it one of the largest electric-powered light commercial vehicle fleets in the UK and well on course to achieve net zero by 2035 – and they wear the EV-ready MICHELIN Agilis CrossClimate tyre.

Other parent company brands within the operator’s commercial fleet include PH Jones, Scottish Gas and Centrica Business Solutions.
