The start of 2023 saw us encounter several obstacles such as the economic challenges which are faced by all companies in our field. I joined Prometeon in 2020 as Marketing Manager, and being the Marketing Manager is in my view a good bridge to this role. It gave me extremely good experience before becoming the Managing Director, so I had a very quick adjustment in the role. Also, the fact that I have been part of the team for a while now really helps, given that I know the customers, I know the contracts which makes the transition easier.
There is certainly a transition underway, but we continue to observe a demand for bias tyres in specific segments such as forklifts and ports. However, the overall trend is moving towards radials, with a gradual decline in diagonal tyre demand. So, the move away from bias is gradual but it is happening, certainly from YOHT’s perspective.
Continental’s Tony Mailling, Head of Hot Retread Production EMEA and Plant Manager CLC Ivybridge & Stocken, explained; “Retreading plays a fundamental part in Continental’s group-wide sustainability ambitions. By 2050 at the latest, Continental will stive for 100 per cent carbon neutrality along the entire value chain, 100 per cent emission-free mobility and industry, a completely circular economy and a wholly responsible value chain.
“Within the tyres business, this means that, by 2050, we will seek to use 100 per cent sustainable materials in our tyres, our operations will be completely green, we’ll facilitate clean and safe mobility and we’ll be able to achieve 60 per cent tyre to tyre circularity.”
“Regardless of the application, Goodyear strives to deliver the best possible offering that allow its customers to maximise their fleet’s performance. Thanks to Goodyear Retreading, each tyre can go through a regroove-retread-regroove lifecycle to bring additional benefits to our customers. This can be one of the most cost-effective ways to get more value from every tyre and reduce operational cos
“We believe that retreading can have an important role to play in supporting competitiveness, but also making the fleet operations more sustainable. A new tyre’s life can be extended up to 150 per cent by regrooving, retreading and then regrooving the tyre a second time.”
“Procuring a fleet and tyre management solution that includes extending the life of a casing once worn is obviously beneficial to operators in cutting costs. It also helps them achieve their environmental ambitions, which is one of our key goals at Michelin. As the focus on the circular economy grows in importance, fleets which previously ran on a new-only policy are increasingly talking to us about moving to a multi-life policy.
“In many cases this is being driven by the big blue-chip customers putting pressure on the 3PLs to drive down carbon footprints at every stage. They want reassurance that their logistics operations are being run as sustainably as possible.”
